Brent Montague enters his fifth season as the Yellowjackets' assistant coach. He
also serves as MSUB's compliance coordinator.
In addition to his coaching and athletics duties, Montague is a
part-time instructor in the Health and Physical Education Department.
Montague, who was a captain of
Coach Carse's first Yellowjacket squad, graduated from MSU Billings in
1996 with a degree in history.
As a senior, Montague was the
Yellowjackets' iron man. He played in all 28 of the Yellowjackets'
games, leading the team in minutes played. Montague's senior
season stats were impressive: 19.4 points per game, 8.6 rebounds per
game, and a team-high .818 free throw percentage. He averaged a
double-double in PacWest Conference games with 20.8 points and 10.2
rebounds per game. On a team that averaged 95.1 points per game,
Montague was the team's high scorer in six games, and his .419
three-point percentage was the highest on a team that made over 10
threes a game.
Montague is currently the
coordinator of scouting, recruiting, and travel for Yellowjacket
Basketball. He is also the director of the numerous Yellowjacket
boys' basketball camps and clinics.
Montague helped put the
Yellowjackets on the NCAA basketball map in 1995-96 when the team
defeated Division I Oregon State on their home court. The
Yellowjackets set an OSU opponent's record for most three-pointers made
in Gill Coliseum when they buried 13 in their upset of the Beavers.
Capable of playing the post or the
perimeter, Montague ranks in the top 10 in school history for three pointers made in a career (120) and a single season
(78). As a junior, he led the team in three
pointers. In Carse's first season at MSU-B, Montague ranked second in points (19.4) and first
in rebounds (8.6). He was subsequently named second
team All-Pacific West Conference. Montague then received
the first Yellowjacket "Outstanding Team Member" award.
The annual award is now named for him. > In
2001, Montague was selected to the MSU Billings Athletics Hall of Fame.
A native of
Marysville, Wash., Montague now
makes his home in Billings with his wife Krista. Krista played
basketball for the Lady Yellowjackets and is now the Director of
Development and Marketing for Yellowjacket Athletics. The couple
has two children, Dylan and Shayla. |
